What is Valley Academy of Performing Arts (VAPA)

VAPA is part of Valley Community Presbyterian Church and is designed to be a resource for the church and for the community. We offer instruction and experiences in the arts for children and youth from age 4 through high school.

Cherub Choir  - 4 Year Olds to 1st Graders

Cherub Choir is an excellent preparatory choir experience for young children.  Children will enjoy singing games and activities as well as learning the basics of singing in choir.

Wednesday, 5 - 5:40PM

King's Kids Choir - 2nd Graders to 5th Graders

King's Kids Choir will develop the student's ability to follow a vocal score and sing in unision and 2-part while contributing to their understanding of worship.

Royal Ringers - 2nd Graders to 5th Graders

Royal Ringers is for beginning to intermediate bell ringers.  Students learn the basics of reading music and develop handbell ringing technique.

Thursday, 4 - 5PM

Youth Praise Choir  - 6th Graders to 12th Graders

Youth Praise Choir will learn a variety of music, from traditional to contemporary, while emphasizing ongoing development of score reading skills and vocal development.

Wednesday, 5:45 - 6:30 PM

New Spirit Ringers  - 6th Graders to 12th Graders

New Spirit Ringers is for intermediate and advanced bell ringers and may be open to experienced 5th graders.

Bell Room
Thursday, 5:00 – 6:00 PM

Children/ Youth Choirs and Bell Choirs participate in worship services at Valley about once every six weeks.  Students registering for these classes should be willing and able to attend such performances. 

There is no fee for participation in choirs and bell choirs.  Classes are ongoing and may be joined at any time as long as space allows. 

Amy Rheingans is the Director of VAPA and Children’s Music at Valley Church.  She has her BA in Music and a Master’s Degree in Arts Administration.  Amy has been teaching for 14 years in both public and private schools, Arts Council programs, dance companies, and at Rockford College in Illinois.  Amy currently also teaches music at Oregon Episcopal School.  Amy strives to help children discover and enjoy music.
